Wild animals have been used to entertain people throughout
history in zoos and circuses. You pass by dozens of different animals at the
zoo, but have you ever thought about where they would be if they weren't behind
those gray fences? They would be in the wild somewhere, or the ocean, relying
on their natural born animal instincts. We have taken away these instincts of
theirs by giving them food and water, something they should be able to attain
on their own. But we still wait in lines every day in our country to observe
these creatures, telling ourselves that these animals are so happy and lucky to
be in a safe, enclosed space. And maybe they are. However, we cannot ignore the
corrosive effect of keeping these animals captive. Wild animals have been shown
to have physical and psychological problems when kept in captivity. These animals cannot be compared to dogs or
cats, who have been domesticated over thousands of years. They are not pets,
they should not be used for our own entertainment, and they certainly should
not be taken away from their family in the wild. These animals need to be
returned to their real home, once and for all.
